The company was founded in the 1990s as Balkan Air Tour. Then it was renamed to Bulgaria Air and it has been an airline operator with 100 % public capital since the end of 2002, after the bankrupt of Balkan. The first flight of Bulgaria Air was on 4 December 2002 in the following direction – Sofia – London – Paris – Sofia.
The passengers were 60.

Since 2008 Bulgaria Air is a full member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Bulgaria Air offers two classes – low cost and business. Passengers can take advantage of the SkyShop service, which offers a great variety of duty-free goods.
