It has been part of the aviation world since 1920, but in fact the carrier’s trade operations started in 1929 as a result of the nationalization of some airlines. Then the domestic destinations, to which the company flies, expand to Katowice, Bydgoszcz and Poznan. Now the majority stake of the LOT shares is still public – the government owns 67,97 % of the carrier’s capital. The capital amounts to

447 673 700 Polish zloty and it is allocated in 4 476 737 shares, each with 100 zloty nominal. The airline personnel owns just below 7 % of the papers. The Polish national carrier is a member of one of the three biggest world airline alliances – Star Alliance. Polish Airlines fly to 58 destinations in Europe and North America. They take also domestic flights from the capital of Poland – Warsaw to the important regional airports in Krakow, Katowice, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan.

As a member of Star Alliance and a partner of Lufthansa, LOT implements a program for loyal passengers, called Miles & More, which is elaborated by the German airline. The program allows passengers to collect bonus points, corresponding to the distances (miles) flown. After having accumulated a fixed number of bonus points, people can
use them to buy tickets, to profit by different services and reductions or to buy goods from the online specialized shop.
